MEET KEIL
A union-raised engineer and Navy veteran, shaped by service, work, and family.
Keil was born in Elkton, MD and was raised in a middle-class family. Keil’s mother was a meat cutter for thirty years at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD and A&P Grocery stores, and his father was a police officer for 3 years and an autoworker for 32 years at Chrysler Newark, DE. He was raised to do the right thing when no one else was looking, to treat people with respect and to serve the community.
Keil lives in Floyd County and is married with four children. After spending twenty plus years in the private sector and eleven years serving in the Navy on both active duty and reserve, he decided it was time to enter public life and run for Indiana's 9th Congressional District as a New Democrat.
Keil has served his country, now he wants to serve his community! He started out working on the Chrysler assembly line at age 19 with limited or no financial resources and support; he decided to put himself through college. After many years of saving and working long hours during the summers as well as receiving union tuition benefits, he finally graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue West Lafayette, IN, at the age of 27. He went on to work various salaried positions at Chrysler Corp, Cummins, Ford Motor Company, and Rolls-Royce. While working full-time, he was able to secure a Master of Science in Financial Engineering Degree from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. He joined the Navy Reserves in 2010 to give back to the country.
Keil enjoys reading, physical fitness, golfing, attending church, and volunteering at Northside Christian Church. He and his family have been members Northside Christian Church since 2022 in New Albany, IN, prior to that Southeast Christian Church 2015-2022.
Keil’s life experiences as a Licensed Electrical Engineer, College Adjunct Instructor Ivy Technical Community College, Former Naval Officer, Assembly Line Worker, Automotive Engineer, Leader, Father and Christian have given him the necessary skills and competences to lead the 9 th Congressional District.
Keil has a BSEE from Purdue University, MSFE from University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, MSEE from University of Louisville, and MAPPS from University of Chicago. He also has a professional engineering license from the state of Indiana (active) and Kentucky (expired).
